ROAD TRAFFIC NOISE

The City of Prague in terms of road traffic in comparison with other Czech cities, motorways and roads in rural areas is in exceptional above-average high intensity and transport performance. The annual census of the noise shows that between years 2008 and 2009 there was a suspension of increase in the intensity that have been recorded since 1990. In 2010 there was merely increase on average by 4.6 % compared to the previous year. Year 2011 then represented annual reduction in intensity of road transport by 1.2 %.

On the busiest roads in Prague equivalent levels of acoustic pressure A reach during the day-time in some places values almost 80 dB. These are the sections of the South junction with Barrandov bridge, Legerova street, Sokolská, Argentinská, etc.

NOISE MAPPING

For a detailed description of noise pollution in urban environment are used noise maps. The City of Prague has been processing its noise maps since 1976. In terms of the state in 2011, the most current outputs are acoustic study Finalization of evaluating the impact on sustainable development of territory in the concept of the Prague Municipal Plan, which was carried out in 2011 using data from the year 2009, and Computational noise map of road traffic in Prague for day and night time (see maps below), based on statistical data of traffic for 2010, processed in 2012 and the noise maps prepared within the project ENVIS4 (calculations for territory detail in 24 city districts with annual updates). In accreditation of the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic, Strategic Noise Map of Prague Agglomeration 2007 was carried out for the City of Prague, which should be updated in a 5-year cycle. New outputs (based on the data from 2011) should be available during 2013.

Note: Regular measurements and evaluation of noise in selected locations in Prague are also performed by the National Health Institute in the framework of the national programme „Environmental Monitoring in relation to public health.“ Monitoring the health consequences and disturbing effects of noise in Prague continued in 2011 at two locations in Prague 3.

ANTI-NOISE PRECAUTIONS

Various departments of the Prague City Hall as well as several organizations, whose activities influence the noise situation in the capital – The Prague Public Transport Company, Inc. (hereinafter as DPP) and The Prague Technical Administration of Roads (hereinafter as TSK), participated, as in previous years, in the realization of antinoise precautions. Noise precautions were implemented both within the recommendations of the „Action Plan for reducing noise in Prague agglomeration 2008“, which was discussed in September 2009 by the City Council and is subject to a five-year update, and also in the performance of precautions according to schedules of removing the old noise pollution carried out by TSK and DPP. Generally, it concerned building anti-noise screens, replacement of existing windows for windows with better parameters of noise attenuation from the outside environment, reconstruction and replacement of tiled surfaces for asphalt and reconstruction of tram-line – coordinated by DPP.

AIR TRAFFIC NOISE

Air traffic is pronounced as an important noise source namely in the surroundings of the international airport Prague – Ruzyně, which is operated by the company of Airport Prague, Co. Other airports in Prague do not belong among the important sources of noise on the territory of Prague. The performance of Prague Airport has recorded since 2008 (approximately 180,000 take- -offs and landings per year) a certain decrease and in 2011 there were about 150,000 take-offs and landings per year. Proportionaly to the decrease in the number of movements there was a slight improvement in the acoustic situation, concerning especially the localities under the extended axis of the main runway RWY 06/24.

Air traffic noise and airway monitoring is being conducted at 13 stationary measuring stations in the nearby airport surrounding, which monitor the volume of the noise protective zone at the Airport Prague – Ruzyně.

Prague Airport, Co. aims to reduce noise pollution from civil aviation through a range of economic, technical and operational precautions.
