B5.3  AIR TRAFFIC NOISE

Air traffic affects, as an important noise source, namely the surroundings of the international Airport Prague - Ruzyně, which is operated by the company of Airport Prague Co. The Airport Prague - Ruzyně is an important member of the Czech Republic’s transport infrastructure; in recent years it has been processing roughly 12 million passengers per year.

The company of Letiště Praha Co. has been striving for the minimisation of the air traffic nuisance on inhabitants living in the airport surroundings and supporting activities, which lead to higher quality of their living conditions. It has been, inter alia, systematically implementing the programme of noise control measures in the declared noise protective zone and assesses all environmental impacts of all its activities. Letiště Praha Co. has also been developing the environmental management system (it has been granted the ISO 14001 Certificate since 2002) and making decisions on investments and their implementation taking environmental issues into account. It also cooperates in active manner with local authorities, communities in the airport surroundings and other stakeholders. Simultaneously it shares environmental experience with other members of the ACI Europe (the European region of Airports Council International).

Letiště Praha Co., as the operator of the Airport Prague - Ruzyně, develops, in accord with legal requirements in every two years, the Report on Noise Conditions at the Airport, which especially deals with so-called planes of marginal compliance. The objective is to map the share of these noisiest aircraft on the Airport operations, their influence on noise conditions in the Airport surroundings, and gradually exclude them from the Airport operations till they are completely banned. The last report sent in the half of 2010 to the Ministry of Transport of the CR evaluates effects of air traffic noise from the Airport Prague - Ruzyně operations in the years 2008 and 2009.

Results of the continuous air traffic noise measurement in the vicinity of the Airport Prague - Ruzyně by a monitoring system of air traffic and air traffic routes noise ANOMS8 in 2009 are given in dB of the indicator LAeq. Values are comparable to the public health limit value because the measured data processing method employed adhered to principles set in the Methodical Guidance of the Ministry of Health of the CR for the Measurements and Evaluation of Air Traffic Noise.
